Japanese Gyoza Dumplings with Dipping Sauce

🛒 Ingredients

For the filling:

  • 200g ground pork or chicken

  • 1 cup finely chopped napa cabbage

  • 2 green onions, finely chopped

  • 1 garlic clove, minced

  • 1 tsp fresh ginger, grated

  • 1 tbsp soy sauce

  • 1 tsp sesame oil

  • 1 tsp rice vinegar

  • Salt and pepper to taste

For assembly & cooking:

  • 20 round gyoza wrappers

  • Water for sealing

  • Oil for frying

  • 1/4 cup water (for steaming)

For the dipping sauce:

  • 2 tbsp soy sauce

  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar

  • A few drops of sesame oil

  • Optional: chili flakes or minced garlic


👨‍🍳 Instructions

  1. Make the filling:
    In a bowl, mix all filling ingredients until well combined.

  2. Assemble the gyoza:
    Place 1 tsp of filling in center of each wrapper. Moisten edges with water, fold over, and pleat to seal tightly.

  3. Cook the dumplings:
    Heat oil in a non-stick pan. Place gyoza flat-side down. Cook 2–3 minutes until bottoms are golden. Add 1/4 cup water and cover. Steam for 5–6 minutes.

  4. Serve hot with dipping sauce.

Try mixing pork with a bit of shrimp paste or mushrooms for extra depth, and garnish with toasted sesame seeds or chili oil on top for plating flair.
